Austin City Limits

Turned out to be quite the road trip. Made me realize how much I have missed Italy and all the spontaneous traveling we did....

Drove to Waco, TX on Friday with two friends from kamp: Garrett (KU) and Dan (Mizzou)....representing the Big 12 North. It was really fun to meet up with so many Kwest friends outside of kamp. We met Dave in Waco, and I laughed as he and Dan compared beards. Dan and I spent much of the weekend laughing about all the "work" we did while at kamp...in Dan's case the lack of it...

Unfortunately, our ropes crew was not 100% complete. Meg....here you are----->

Saturday, we drove to Austin and were bound to not let the rain get us down. Afterall, we had actually made it! Sometimes the plans you make at kamp never turn into anything more. A lot of the time, I find myself making all these sweet plans...."yea, I will totally drive to see you and hang out once a semester...." and then life happens and you never see them.....

We got to see Mute Math, Bon Iver, The Decembrists, and Dave Matthews Band on Saturday. Mute Math actually turned out to be pretty good. I had only heard a few of their songs, but they put on a really good show. Bon Iver was so great! Partially because it was raining (no blue poncho for me) during his whole show, and if you've heard his music....well its great music to hear live while standing in the rain....

Then we (Dave, Garrett, Dan, and I) found a picnic table and sat down to eat a "snack". We opened a bag of bread, a jar of peanut butter, and some honey.....cheap college students? not at all..... Unfortunately, there was no knife, so we scooped the peanut butter out of the jar with our very pruny fingers and spread it on the bread, also with our very pruny fingers. Good thing, no one was a germ-a-phobe.....

Later we went to watch the Decembrists. AKA, Dave and Dan went to get a good spot for Dave Matthews, while Garrett and I watched the Decembrists. They played their entire Hazards of Love album, and it was also really good (I included a very small clip of the last song at the end of this entry). I had bought a ticket just for Saturday and was stoked to find out that they were playing on Saturday. As they finished their show, I had this strange "happy/real sad" feeling.....

Dave Matthews was also good. I have a bunch of his music, but really dont listen to it. But I thought he put on a really good show, even though I didnt really know many of the songs. Dan got excited about pretty much every song.....cracked me up.

Since it had rained most of the day, the whole park turned into this huge mud swamp. I managed to lose both of my flipflops on the way back, and waded through 3 inches of mud barefoot.....I had to wash my jeans twice to get all the mud out.....

On Sunday, Garrett and Dan went back to the festival and saw Girl Talk, Brett Dennen, Passion Pit, and Ben Harper.....but I spent the day in Waco with Lily at Common Grounds (a real sweet coffee shop). Then drove to Austin to pick the guys up.....without getting lost!!! Impressive, I know.....

Then we drove back to Lawrence all day on Monday. Fortunately I did not have school. Unfortunately, it was quite cold and Dan thought it was funny to randomly roll down my window during our trip back.....

My least favorite quote of the weekend:
Dan: So on thursday night, Garrett and I were at the Girl Talk concert.....
