Campania Excursion through API----mount vesuvius

The first day was mainly spent riding in a charter bus towards the region of Campania. For those of you who don’t know, Italy is divided up into many regions. You could kind of compare them to states in the U.S. Tuscania is in the region Lazio, but most people think it is in the region Tuscanny. The first thing we did this weekend was visit Mt. Vesuvius between Naples and Pompeii. Naples is the most sketchy area in Italy due to recent acts from the Mafia; however, we did not spend any time in Naples during our stay in Campania. Our bus took us most of the way up the volcano, but then we hiked up the rest of the way. The hike reminded me of the hike up the mountain in Azusa with Sez. I expected to look over the edge of the volcano and see boiling hot lava, as if I had entered Mordor ready to cast the ring into the lava. However, peering over the edge did not meet my expectations. Instead of red, hot lava, I saw what looked like a large hole filled in with loose volcanic rock. Needless to say, I was just a bit disappointed. But then a group of my favorite girls and I spelled out the word “volcano” in front of Vesuvius, so that made up for it.

After Vesuvius, we drove the rest of the way to Sorento, which is an incredibly, gorgeous town built on the cliffs right next to the coast. The water was breathtaking; unfortunately, no camera could capture the beauty of this city on the beach. API took us out to dinner that night at a nice restaurant. We ate this pasta stuff that was stuffed with potato. Each little piece has to be hand made. It was real good! After dinner, we all headed back to the hotel and crashed…
