Thankful All Around...

For thanksgiving week, my cousin Sez came to visit. For those of you who do not know her, she goes to school in California, but studied abroad in Perugia, Italy last fall. So she came to visit me for thanksgiving and see Italy again.

She flew into Rome the Friday before thanksgiving, and after some confusing non-sense we met at our hostel in Rome. It was quite the night as we tried to find an ATM in order to pay for our hostel, and along the way we were trapped in the elevator for a few moments. But it was long enough to make us both worry, laugh, and sound the alarm! The next day we visited Vatican City (the vatican museum, the sistine chapel, and St. Peter's basilica), and then that night we went and saw the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, some wedding cake building thing, and the Coliseum. I had seen most of these during my first few days in Italy, but it was great to go see them again after having been here and after reading the Mark of the Lion books. My favorite was by far the Coliseum. It looked so beautiful at night!! Sez and I made a video outside it, but I cant post it on here because it is so long.......

On sunday, we woke up early and headed to Perugia. We had a train that took us straight-through which was really nice! As soon as we got there, we headed to our hotel, checked in, and showered. Then we ventured out to see the town. Sez showed me her school, her favorite pizza place, and where she lived. We ate at the pizza place, and it was amazing!! The pizza was fantastic; in fact it was so great that we went twice in one day! After our appertivo that night, we went back for a nutella pizza......I also saw where Amanda Knox (my look alike) lived and murdered her roomie! Weirdly enough, you could see the house from my cousin's apartment......
I really liked Perugia! It was a city, but didnt have that city feel. Until visiting Perugia, I would have said that Florence was my favority Italian city, but I think I liked Perugia better. Probably because its a good compromise between Florence and Tuscania. When you are in Perugia, you have all the benefits of a larger city, but there is a lot of grass and you can see the Italian countryside as well!
The next morning in Perugia it was raining, but we went out anyway! We were on the lookout for a pair of purple boots for Sez, but along the way I had a short case of "I dont know what", but I felt awful for an hour, and then it was gone......then we said goodbye to Perugia and took off for a 7 hour ride to Tuscania........

.....it shouldnt have taken 7 hours to get from Perugia to Tuscania. If we had had a car, it probably would have taken maybe 2.5 hours. But thats what happens when you rely on public transportation. So 7 hours, 2 trains, 2 buses, lots of walking in the rain and snow, we made it to Tuscania!!!

The next few days were pretty unproductive. We shopped for all the ingredients which would be needed for our Thanksgiving feast, wandered around Tuscania, and watched some XFiles.....I was afraid that our feast was going to be a nightmare, but it really came through! The food turned out to be amazing! We even decorated the kitchen with turkeys that we had traced from our hands! We didnt have quite as many people as we had expected, but that was ok....It was cool to show the Italians what our American food is like. I think they kinda liked it, or at least they were polite and didnt want to hurt our feelings......Following the meal, we went to an Italian basketball game. Unfortunately we lost, but I think they blamed it on the fact that they were all so full.....:)
It turned out to be a great week! I had so much fun showing Sez all the things that I had seen, and its so great to have people that I can talk about my experience with. Both Sez and Becca have experienced many of the same things while being here, and its cool that I will be able to share that with them......I have much to be thankful for this year! Sometimes Lauren and I say that we dont understand how the Lord has blessed us so much over this year. Sometimes it almost doesnt seem fair, especially when we know that we dont deserve His enormous blessings. But its cool to see how He uses both our blessings and our misfortunes to grow us up and make us more like Him......
